Central Library

IIRS Library started with a small collection of books and journals. But now the library collection is one of best collection in the field of Remote Sensing and its application areas. The Library is dedicated to serve the information needs of the scientists, researchers and students of the Institute. Day by day IIRS Library is growing in terms of services and latest collections in the field of Remote Sensing and its applications. To provide efficient and fast service library house keeping operation and information services are automated with popular and latest library management software (LibSys ver 4.0). The library collection can be browsed through intranet. The Barcode technology is being implemented for circulation and inventory control. Other than traditional document and information, library has good collection of electronic information resources i.e. e-Journals, e-Books, Online databases and sources of information of open access information resources.

Aims

  •  To collect, organize and disseminate relevant information on remote sensing and its applications in different fields.

  •  To fulfill the information needs of faculties, researchers and students of IIRS.

  •  To respond to the information needs of scientists, researchers, Government departments and Institutions.

IIRS Library has wide range of collection of documents and information resources in the form of Books, Proceedings, Thesis, and Reports, Journals etc in print and electronic format to meet the requirements of its user community.

The Services

The IIRS Library offers the following services:

Lending Service:
The lending and reservation of books, reports, theses, dissertations etc. and access and browsing of electronic resources in the library premises and in the campus. To enable the service library has small computer room for its user community.

Reference and Referral Service: IIRS Library provides reference services from its own databases, collections and information resources according to the nature of query in the field of Remote Sensing and its application areas. Also library suggest the available open resources to its user community

Content Information service: IIRS Library subscribes to almost all remote sensing journals and other journals of interest. It circulates contents of current journals and periodicals in the form of booklet.

Conference Information Service: The information or notification about the conferences, seminars, symposiums and workshops etc. received in the library are displayed and notified. Also circulated through E-mail to its user community.

Bibliographical Information Service: Subject bibliographies are being provided on a particular topic on demand as well as in anticipation of such demands from its databases and available information resources. Library also brought out the special issues of journals annually.

Reprographic Service:

Photocopy of full text articles, few pages of books, theses and dissertation etc. from its collection at nominal charges.

OPAC : Online Public Access Catalogue of library collection provided to all the divisions of the institute as well as scientist’s desk and in the library premises.

Computer based services: IIRS Library also provides Internet, Email and Computer facility to it user community such as Internet browsing, E-mail, Scanning of documented, browsing of library database and electronics information resources in the library premises as well as in the campus.

Reading Room: Sitting arrangement for 40 readers in reading room.

Inter-Library Loan: Non of the library cent per cent cater the information requirement of its user community. To extend the services library has to depend on Inter library Loan. So IIRS Library maintains cordial relation with local institutional libraries of Dehradun as well as DOS libraries. This relation enables us to provide inter-library loan services to its users for the books and periodicals not available in IIRS Library.

The Staff
Team of trained and experienced professionals provides the services. The staff can be approached at any time for any assistance in the library.

User Relation
The IIRS library user community comprises students & Trainees, faculty, scientist, visiting scientist, research scholars walk in scholar and scientist and visiting scientist. We make all efforts to maintain best standards of services and encourage our library users to use the library collection. Orientation program for new member or user are being conducted regularly.
