The Forestry Division was created in 1966. Experts from forest departments and from ITC (The Netherlands) jointly developed the training course syllabus on application of aerial photographs for forest resources survey and inventory. The first course was run by the division in 1968. Satellite remote sensing was incorporated in the training activities with affect from 1976, when the Institute was brought under NRSA, Department of Space.
